Classic Lower Sepik/Ramu Rivers Dance Costume Mask. This style of mask is used on large cane dance costumes in the area of the confluences of the Sepik and Ramu rivers. It has the necessary holes around the perimeter for attachment to the costume. It was collected in the 1970’s and would have been carved before that. There are remnants of the classic red color always seen on these masks. Although they often used commercial paints on these, this one was painted with all native-made paints. It is 19.5 inches tall.
