Antique Babakumbu, Abelam People, Papua New Guinea - #8594

Antique Babakumbu - Babakumbus, from the Wosera, are made of woven rattan then painted in bright natural & commercial colors. They are made by the men of the Abelam tribe as ancestral religious power centers & are used for healing, power, initiation, & harvest festivals. Another nice baba, collected by Ron Perry in the 1960’s. This stunning mask is really well made with lots of extra details added. It has a lot of old paint still on it. It shows quite a bit of use. It is roughly 15 inches tall. Comes with a custom stand.
