Old Bone Dagger, Maprik area-SOLD

Bone Dagger, Maprik/Wosera area - Bone daggers are made from the thighbone of the huge cassowary bird.  They are frequently incised with ancestor and clan designs and are generally worn in a woven band on the upper arm and occasionally on a cord around the neck.  This multi-purpose tool is used for fighting, hunting, digging, ceremonial sacrifice, and singsing (dancing) decoration.

Another nice old dagger with a lot of age, a nice patina and polish from use. Simple incised designs but also has a bush twine cord and some old rattan woven at the top. There is also some grass or rattan stuffed in the hole under the top, as you can see in one of the photos. Excellent old dagger, 11 inches tall, comes with a stand.
