Very Fine Woven Yam Decoration with Rattan Chains - #B15-2

Very Fine Woven Yam Decoration with Rattan Chains. These pieces are used with a wooden mask to decorate the very large yams of the Abelam people. This very old artifact is woven of rattan with rattan chains. The colorful stuff in the weaving is actually old rice bag material. It is commonly used in New Guinea for woven pieces because it is colorful and durable. I love it when they incorporate and adapt. This one dates from the 1960’s or earlier. It is 8.25 inches wide, top to bottom is 17 inches.

Priced at $240  plus $10 for shipping.* Total cost $250   *Please contact me for shipping outside the US.
