Very Old Abelam Sago Peg, New Guinea - 8474

Abelam Sago Peg, New Guinea. Sago pegs are used to hold palm spath in place on a framework so that sago can be processed. It is a long and labor intensive process. I believe this peg is the top of a very old spear that broke and was adapted to a new utilitarian use. It is made of black palm, which is typical for spears from the Wosera. It date to at least the 1940’s. Comes custom mounted. It is 32.5 inches talk.
