Very Old Bone Dagger, Papua New Guinea - 8122

Very Old Bone Dagger, Papua New Guinea. Bone daggers are made from the thighbone of the huge cassowary bird.  They are generally worn in a woven band on the upper arm and occasionally on a cord around the neck.  This multi-purpose tool is used for fighting, hunting, digging, ceremonial sacrifice, and singsing (dancing) decoration.  Once the tip gets broken off too many times the dagger is often converted into a lime spatula or thatch sewing tool, which is what this one had become. The age patina on this is a beautiful deep reddish brown that goes deep into the bone. It is circa 1950’s or before. Comes with a custom mount, it is 8.5 inches tall.
