This mask also comes from the Sepik River village of Maramba and was also collected in December of 1976. It retains a lot of village-made paint and is trimmed with grass and a rattan hanger. A nice age patina all over. The mask is 13.5 inches tall without the rattan hanger.
I recently obtained a group of artifacts from legendary New Guinea collector Ron Perry. He collected them in situ in the fall of 1976. They all came from an unopened crate from that time, so none have been seen or sold before.
