Pounders like this were the hammers of the Sepik. They were often used in carving. This lovely piece has a crocodile head, likely a clan totem. You can see it has a fair amount of use and nice patina on the hanldle. Collected in the 1980’s. Custom mounted, it is 10.75 inches long.
