This lizard carving comes from the middle Sepik River village of Maramba. It was collected in December of 1976. It has little remaining dark paint on it and was old when collected. It measures 26.75 inches long.
I recently obtained a group of artifacts from legendary New Guinea collector Ron Perry who spent many decades working and collecting in New Guinea starting in the early 1960’s. This group came from a crate he shipped from New Guinea in December of 1976. The crate was stored unopened for 46 years until we opened it last year. None of these pieces have been displayed or sold before.
