Art & Artifacts > Very Old Wooden Yam Mask, Abelam People – 19-43

Masks such as this are used in the annual yam ceremonies among the Abelam people of Papua New Guinea. This particular mask shows considerable age and use. As you can see from the back even the termite damage is old.  Don’t worry the mask is solid and any bugs are decades gone. This mask is circa 1960 or earlier. Comes with a custom mount, the mask is 15.25 inches tall.
