Art & Artifacts > Wooden Yam Mask, Abelam People, New Guinea

A very nicely painted wooden yam mask. It comes from an Australian collector who lived in the Highlands but collected all over PNG. It is circa 1960’s. The hornbill on the left has a native repair. The head was reattached and then the beak was fixed with rattan maybe a second repair? It is 15.5 inches tall.
