Colorful Old Yam Ceremony Decoration, Abelam People. This wonderful little piece was attached to a giant yam during the yam ceremony held each year in the Wosera. The face is wood with a woven “frame” around it. Painted with commercial paint it dates to the mid-20^th century. Even the black palm stick shows considerable age and patina like the rest of the piece. The mask part is 7 inches by 3.75 inches. Comes with a custom mount.
